Takorean Information

TaKorean at 1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC 20002 sits inside Union Market in Northeast Washington, where it serves a fast-casual mash-up of Korean-inspired barbecue flavors and Latin-American taco format. This is the Union Market counter, not the separate TaKorean at The Yards in Southeast DC. Its main appeal is customization: diners can turn bulgogi steak, dak galbi chicken, bo ssam pork, tofu, or vegetables into tacos, rice bowls, or salads with slaw, sauces, and crunchy toppings.

The setting is decidedly casual. Ordering happens at a food-hall counter, and seating is part of the broader Union Market environment rather than a traditional full-service dining room. That makes TaKorean easy to combine with a market visit, a quick lunch, or a group meal where everyone wants something different. Pickup and delivery are available through the restaurant’s ordering system. Union Market currently lists the stand as open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, although TaKorean’s ordering platform has recently shown earlier 8 p.m. closing times on some days, so checking same-day hours is sensible.

Budget-wise, TaKorean lands in the affordable-to-moderate fast-casual range. Most core orders are in the low-to-mid teens before premium add-ons. For a first visit, the House Style Taco Trio is the easiest way to understand the concept because it combines chicken, steak, and pork with different slaws and toppings. The bulgogi steak is especially worth considering with pickled cabbage, lime crema, GochuPow sauce, cilantro, or crunchy shallots. Diners who want a more filling, less messy meal may prefer a build-your-own rice bowl. Tofu and vegetable choices also give plant-based diners useful customization options.

Customer feedback is strongest when it focuses on the bold sweet-savory proteins, slaws, and the contrast between Korean barbecue seasoning and taco toppings. Diners have repeatedly singled out the bulgogi, kimchi-style slaw, tofu, and sauces as flavorful combinations, and the quick build-your-own format is a major convenience. Criticism is more mixed: some guests looking for traditional Korean food find the flavors less authentic or the kimchi less fermented and spicy than expected. Other complaints mention occasional overcooked chicken, overly acidic slaw, soggy vegetables, or extra charges for certain toppings.

TaKorean is best for casual lunches, quick dinners, solo diners, friends exploring Union Market, and groups with mixed meat and plant-based preferences. It is less suitable for anyone seeking table service, a quiet date-night setting, or a traditional Korean barbecue experience. The practical pick is the taco trio for variety or a bulgogi-based bowl for a heartier meal; this Union Market location makes the most sense when the occasion calls for fast, customizable food in the middle of a lively market stop.

What People's Say About Place

Takorean was such a nice surprise for me. Their website describes TaKorean as “bold Korean flavour with a Latin-American twist,” and it’s truly the perfect definition. I had never tried tacos with Korean flavours before, and this was such a memorable first experience. The combination is amazing, it brings together the best of both worlds in a way that feels fresh, flavourful, and perfectly balanced. The combinations are delicious without ever feeling heavy, and it’s the kind of food you can enjoy again and again without getting tired of it. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the location inside Union Market makes it an easy spot to visit while exploring the area. The only downside is the ventilation system in Union Market itself, it isn’t the best, so when you step outside in winter, you end up smelling like the food stalls, as if you were cooking. It’s not ideal, but it doesn’t take away from the tastiness, freshness, and overall joy of TaKorean. I'd definitely go back to try TaKorean, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something flavourful, fresh, and satisfying.

Takorean inside Union Market is fantastic! I opted for the Chicken Avocado bowl, while others got tacos, and both were delicious—honestly, you can’t go wrong either way. The prices are a little on the higher side, but the quality makes it worth it. On weekends, seating can be tough to find, but if you visit during the week, it’s much easier to grab a spot. If you have any questions, just ask the staff—they’re very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

Food was well seasoned, the proportions were generous, and the taco trio was the best sampler for the uninitiated. -1 star because the meat was very very greasy (there’s a difference between juicy and greasy) and because there was a chicken bone in my taco.

Delicious bowls! Lots of options served build-your-own style. Meat was well marinated, and kale slaw was super flavorful. Loved the sauces. Great price too!

I honestly don’t know what I got I told edwin to go crazy on my order and just get me what he thinks is best. This was so god damn good! Very kind staff as well. Can’t even explain the flavors of what I got I just wanna say that it’s worth it. 10/10

Excellent food amazing 3 filling decadent tacos for only $10 after tax.

Takorean — the food tonight was absolutely scrumptious. Everything was on point, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. 10/10. My bowl: white rice, chicken, kimchi slaw, marinated cucumbers, lime crema, and gochu-pow sauce.

Very very delicious rice bowl. It is a fantastic combination with sour cream and gochujang on top of rice and bulgogi. Staff was very friendly! I visited Navy yard location but I like Union Square better because of the staffs. Same food but better service.
