Takorean Information

If you're in Washington, DC, and craving something fresh, flavorful, and a bit different, Takorean is a spot that should definitely be on your radar. Located at 1309 5th St NE, this vibrant little gem offers a fusion of Korean flavors with the comfort of classic American street food. It's one of those places that you can easily get hooked on, and it's easy to see why locals and visitors alike keep coming back for more.

When you step inside, the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between casual and trendy. The minimalist décor, bright walls, and simple yet inviting seating make it the kind of place where you can easily relax, whether you're grabbing a quick bite solo or enjoying lunch with friends. There’s always a welcoming vibe here, and it’s the sort of place where everyone feels at home. The friendly staff are quick to offer suggestions and make sure your dining experience goes smoothly.

Now, let’s talk about the star of the show: the food. The menu at Takorean is all about delicious, bold flavors that pop, with a heavy emphasis on Korean BBQ-style meat, pickled vegetables, and spicy sauces, but it’s all served in a way that’s accessible for any palate. One of their standout dishes is the Takorean taco. Picture this: perfectly seasoned bulgogi beef, tender and savory, nestled in a warm, soft taco shell, topped with a tangy kimchi slaw. It's a marriage of textures and tastes that’s both satisfying and refreshing. The tacos come in a variety of options, from bulgogi to spicy pork to tofu, so there’s something for everyone.

Beyond tacos, the bowls are another fan favorite. Served in a large, hearty portion, these bowls pack a punch with their mix of flavors. The rice is always fluffy, the meat is grilled to perfection, and the toppings-whether it’s that crunchy kimchi, some creamy sriracha mayo, or pickled daikon-bring everything together beautifully. You can also customize your bowl with extras like avocado or a soft-boiled egg, making each meal feel just a little more personal.

The menu also features a selection of sides and snacks that shouldn’t be overlooked. The fries, for instance, are tossed in a Korean-inspired seasoning, and they’re the perfect balance of crispy and savory. If you’re looking for a lighter option, the kimchi fries or the veggie sides will hit the spot.

What makes Takorean even better is its location in a growing, lively part of the city. It’s just a stone's throw away from some of the area's most exciting spots, making it the perfect pit stop whether you’re out exploring or need a quick, flavorful lunch. Plus, with its casual vibe, it’s easy to swing by for a quick takeout order or to stick around and savor the food at one of their cozy tables.

The overall experience at Takorean leaves you feeling like you’ve stumbled upon a hidden treasure. With its combination of tasty, inventive food and the welcoming atmosphere, it’s no wonder it has built such a loyal following. Whether you’re new to Korean cuisine or a long-time fan, Takorean is a must-try when you’re in the neighborhood.

What People's Say About Place

Takorean was such a nice surprise for me. Their website describes TaKorean as “bold Korean flavour with a Latin-American twist,” and it’s truly the perfect definition. I had never tried tacos with Korean flavours before, and this was such a memorable first experience. The combination is amazing, it brings together the best of both worlds in a way that feels fresh, flavourful, and perfectly balanced. The combinations are delicious without ever feeling heavy, and it’s the kind of food you can enjoy again and again without getting tired of it. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the location inside Union Market makes it an easy spot to visit while exploring the area. The only downside is the ventilation system in Union Market itself, it isn’t the best, so when you step outside in winter, you end up smelling like the food stalls, as if you were cooking. It’s not ideal, but it doesn’t take away from the tastiness, freshness, and overall joy of TaKorean. I'd definitely go back to try TaKorean, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something flavourful, fresh, and satisfying.

Takorean inside Union Market is fantastic! I opted for the Chicken Avocado bowl, while others got tacos, and both were delicious—honestly, you can’t go wrong either way. The prices are a little on the higher side, but the quality makes it worth it. On weekends, seating can be tough to find, but if you visit during the week, it’s much easier to grab a spot. If you have any questions, just ask the staff—they’re very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

Food was well seasoned, the proportions were generous, and the taco trio was the best sampler for the uninitiated. -1 star because the meat was very very greasy (there’s a difference between juicy and greasy) and because there was a chicken bone in my taco.

Delicious bowls! Lots of options served build-your-own style. Meat was well marinated, and kale slaw was super flavorful. Loved the sauces. Great price too!

I honestly don’t know what I got I told edwin to go crazy on my order and just get me what he thinks is best. This was so god damn good! Very kind staff as well. Can’t even explain the flavors of what I got I just wanna say that it’s worth it. 10/10

Excellent food amazing 3 filling decadent tacos for only $10 after tax.

Takorean — the food tonight was absolutely scrumptious. Everything was on point, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. 10/10. My bowl: white rice, chicken, kimchi slaw, marinated cucumbers, lime crema, and gochu-pow sauce.

Very very delicious rice bowl. It is a fantastic combination with sour cream and gochujang on top of rice and bulgogi. Staff was very friendly! I visited Navy yard location but I like Union Square better because of the staffs. Same food but better service.
